Alberta BoostR – Financing Local Businesses

Last month, the Yellowhead Brewery hosted Edmonton’s first Alberta BoostR event! The launch party was a huge success with live music, food, drinks, and many familiar faces including Mayor Stephen Mandel and Don Iveson.

This new platform has been created to provide the opportunity for local businesses to tell their story, who they are and what they do, and ask for a small financial boost from locals while offering something in return — it’s a crowdfunding platform, relying on a “local for local” model.

Focusing on Alberta owned businesses only, Alberta BoostR gives a financial alternative. Instead of increasing credit card limits and taking out loans, funding is provided allowing business owners to be in control and deepen their level with their community and customers. Supporters provide businesses with a small monetary “boost” in exchange for a reward or perk, ranging from discounts to free products to exclusive opportunities and events.

This will be an ongoing platform featured in Edmonton, with businesses running their campaigns for 30 to 60 days. Poppy Barley, Sublime Swimwear, LUX Beauty Boutique and Carbon Envrironmental Boutique are businesses that were featured at the soiree!
