One cold, snowy winter evening I watched someone shovel two outdoor rinks from the warmth of my apartment. Soon after, there were kids bundled up playing hockey and skating. Let’s be honest, winter may be cold and dark, and it can be a challenge to motivate yourself to do anything or go anywhere. But at this upcoming Green Drinks you will have the chance to meet those who truly embrace and celebrate the season, our winter city, and all the people who are bringing the magic and enjoyment back to winter. Here are a few of the guests that you can expect to meet on Wednesday, Feb. 3, at the Yellowhead Brewery:
- Winter City Edmonton, Isla Tanaka & Susan Holdsworth – WinterCity co-ordinators at the City of Edmonton
- Winterus Maximus Fat Bike Chariot Race – Laura Maguire is an accomplished outdoors person and fat biker, who has organized several bike races and events in the Alberta and B.C. over the years.
- Victoria Park Freezeway, Allyse Butler who is the social media manager & design consultant
- 40 Below Project, Jason Norman is the founder and editor of the 40 Below Project, which features local authors writing stories and about their experiences of winter in Edmonton.
Grab a ticket for you and a friend, and join The Local Good at Green Drinks to learn how you can become more active in the winter, connect with people involved in winter festivals and discover the fun that this winter city has to offer. What else is great about winter? The northern lights are spectacular, tobogganing is always fun, and my personal favourite: skating. Register online here and share the event with your friends on Facebook!
We are looking forward to seeing you Feb. 3 — but we also need volunteers to make this event amazing! Please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested in volunteering.
